Bob has a Master’s Degree in Human Services Administration with a concentration in Mental Health Administration. Bob has over 25 years of senior executive management experience having been the CEO of alcohol and drug treatment facilities, psychiatric hospitals and residential treatment facilities. Bob has also been a Regional Vice President being responsible for multiple treatment facilities. Bob is extremely dedicated to the clients that are served at the facilities he manages. Bob adheres to a philosophy of service excellence at every point of an organization he manages insuring that clients receive the best possible care.
Parbatee Kahn, BS

I was born, raised and educated on the beautiful island of Trinidad & Tobago. 8 years in the Addiction Treatment services environment provides the knowledge to handle the challenges in today’s healthcare industry. With 15 years of revenue cycle experience in the Health Care Industry which started with Sunrise Regional Medical Center and most recent The Recovery Place.

Director of Operations - Jessica brings over 10 years of experience working with adolescents, adults, and families. She specializes in addictions and mental health issues; in particular, co-occurring disorders, trauma, sexuality, and family of origin issues. She has continued to enhance her clinical skills in areas of couples counseling, human sexuality, and behavioral analysis. She provides individual, group therapy, relationship & couple's therapy. As a therapist, she also loves helping individuals with addictions, especially with mental health issues. She is excited to continue to use her free time to help others in need..
Barbara Brockmeier, LCSW
Vice President of Clinical Services
is building LakeHaven’s co-occurring treatment program with a foundation of 17 years’ experience in inpatient/outpatient program development and social services. She has been an instrumental force in the strategic plans and operational successes of private and nonprofit organizations alike, building a reputation for motivating staff to achieve their highest potential. Her effective leadership and clinical knowledge of evidence-based practices has helped the facilities where she has worked receive and maintain the highest standards of their CARF and JCAHO accreditations, in addition to securing DCF/SAMH licensure and audit compliance. Mrs. Brockmeier has a successful and proven work history of leading program development for chemical dependency and co-occurring treatment programs. She has been responsible for managing and directing all aspects of the operations of a dual diagnosis residential treatment facility, where she also mentored and developed staff in evidenced based co-occurring treatment practices. Furthermore, she was part of a pioneering team selected to direct a privatized community oversight approach to the delivery of Florida’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health services. As Director of Clinical Quality Improvement for one of Florida’s nine Managing Entities, she was responsible for identifying and implementing process change through provider network contracts and clinical support. Mrs. Brockmeier earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan, with a dual concentration in Mental Health Administration and Interpersonal Practice. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Qualified Clinical Supervisor in Florida.

Marie G. Guma, PsyD (ABD)

Marie G. Gumá was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Her family moved to Miami, Florida when she was 3 years old. From a very early age Marie knew she wanted to study psychology and work in the helping profession. She attended Westminster Christian high school and then continued to Barry University where she majored in psychology. Marie obtained her Master's of Science and Doctoral coursework in Clinical Psychology at Carlos Albizu University graduating Cum Laude and a member of the Honor Society (PSI CHI). Once a year, Marie volunteers as a clinician on a medical mission to Mindo, Ecuador.
Marie is well known and experienced professional in the substance abuse community in South Florida. Marie began her career providing psychological therapy to the underprivileged youth in Miami-Dade County where she worked in collaboration with the Dependency Court as she provided individual therapy to foster children and parents who lost their parenting rights (permanent and temporarily) due to allegations of abuse or neglect. Her passion in making a difference in her clients' life, lead her to become an advocate volunteer. After 8 years of practicing in the public sector, Marie opened a private practice office in Coral Gables. In 2011 she was exposed to the world of substance abuse and business development when she was asked to become the department head of a medical stabilization unit for patients undergoing detoxication off of substances at Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida. She has spent years building relationships nationally in the substance abuse field and has created a name for herself due to her professionalism, ethics, experience and passion. She holds high standards for herself, the facility she represents and the organizations she relates to. Her multi-faceted exposure to all aspects of treatment has helped to develop her vision and enthusiasm for Lakehaven Recovery Center.
John Sortino, MD
Medical Records Specialist
Has been working in the addiction field since 2012. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health care management. Karleen is currently coordinating the medical records department. Karleen comes to LakeHaven with a passion and vast knowledge for helping those who suffer from the disease of addiction.
Licensed Practical Nurse, Graduated from Keiser Career College in July, 2006. Worked in Correctional nursing for several years as I Entered Psychiatric, Substance abuse treatment and Recovery in 2008, She is a dedicated and talented nurse who can not only accurately assess patients, but also plan and deliver outstanding, evidence-based care for them. Sateria has a kind, caring and calm approach to getting things done. She is more than able to meet the needs of her patients, their families and fellow healthcare professionals. As a naturally sociable person she has no trouble communicating across various levels and with individuals from all backgrounds.
Lystra Lewis, RMFTI

Lakehaven welcomed Lystra to the clinical team in October 2015. She holds a Master Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University located in Davie, Florida and is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (RMFTI) pursuing licensure. Prior to joining our team, Lystra worked at The Recovery Place from November 2012 to October 2015 in the capacity of a Primary Substance Abuse Therapist. While there she won Employee of the Year in 2013 from a field of over 150 employees which speaks to her competency, dedication and professionalism. Lystra, is currently pursuing her CAP certification and PhD from Nova Southeastern University in the area of Marriage and Family Therapy.
John Kokolski, M.Ed.
John holds a Master’s Degree of Education from The College of William and Mary where he specialized in Addiction Counseling. John has personal experience with addiction and knows the affect it can have on families. John utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy when working with his clients. John views family involvement in treatment as a key piece to the individual’s recovery journey. He is very passionate about recovery from addiction and thinks recovery is possible for anyone so long as they are honest, open, and willing.
LakeHaven Recovery Center welcomed Myia to the clinical team in July of 2016. She earned her Bachelors of Art Degree in Psychology from the University of Miami and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University. Myia is a National Certified Counselor and a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. Myia has worked in the Mental Health and Addiction field for over 5 years, working with diverse populations presenting with an array of issues, but not limited to: past trauma, chronic relapse, other addictive behaviors, and mental health issues. At the core, Myia is a Person-Centered Therapist who believes it is important to provide all clients with unconditional positive regard, respect, empathy, acceptance, and genuineness. Person Centered Therapy also encourages the client to take an active role in his or her treatment with the therapist, where they work collaboratively. Myia then integrates an assortment of interventions from different treatment modalities such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Motivational Enhancement Techniques. Myia provides a non-judgmental environment where clients can recognize and feel empowered to utilize the strengths they may not realize they possess.
Charisma joined the Lake Haven Recovery Center clinical team in June of 2016. She holds a Bachelors of Art Degree in Psychology from the University of North Florida and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from NOVA Southeastern University. Currently, Charisma is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern and a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP). She has been in the Mental Health and Addiction field for over 4 years and has worked with a diverse background with various populations that includes individuals suffering from past trauma, behavioral and legal problems, pregnant females in recovery, chronic relapse and those who struggle with severe mental health issues. Charisma currently uses an integrative approach to Individual therapy, meeting clients where they are at with the notion that “every client is unique”. She also uses an Experiential therapeutic approach towards group therapy that operates on the belief that inner conflict within a person can be healed through mimicking real-life experiences; thus creating group cohesion and a sense of belongingness. Charisma is also trained in various modalities in treating co-occurring disorders in which she specializes in CBT, 12 step, Motivational Interviewing and various Mindfulness techniques. Charisma enjoys growing as a professional in the field and is currently working towards becoming certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a psychotherapy approach that has been proven to be effective for treating individuals with past trauma. She enjoys facilitating growth by empowering others to reach their full potential through exemplifying compassion, authenticity and openness.
Trudy-Ann Powell, MSW, MCAP, CADA

Trudy-Ann Powell has over 10 years experience in the Mental Health and Addiction field with varying levels of care. She has studied at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan where she completed her Masters degree in Social Work and a proud inductee in the Phi Alpha Honors Society. She also holds her Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) in the state of Florida. Additionally Trudy loves helping persons to recover and refocus their lives and in this regards she attended numerous supervisory skill training workshops and seminars, all aimed at sharpening her therapy skills. She is also trained in various modalities in treating co-occurring disorders in which she specializes in DBT, CBT, 12 step, Solution Focused and Motivational Interviewing. She strongly believes that recovery can only be truly attained when there is acceptance, honesty and forgiveness of ones self and family support.
Mindy Sherman, M.Ed.

Mindy is a Florida and New York state certified teacher of over 20 years. She is the owner and operator of Pathways 2 Work, LLC. As a job developer, she provides a continuum of services from job awareness and exploration to job placement and maintenance. Mindy has developed and implemented a successful job development program for the school district which continues to provide job opportunities to young adults. As an educator, she also will help clients find their "path" to career opportunities and educates clients on all phases of job placement.
Garland D. Jones, M.S., CTRS
Director of Recreation Therapy
A 2008 graduate of Bethune-Cookman University with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education concentration in Recreation and a 2012 graduate of Florida International University with a Masters of Science in Recreation and Sports Management concentration in Recreational Therapy; Garland Jones is knowledgeable in the field of recreation. Having worked in the field of recreation for over 10 years, Garland has worked with various Parks and Recreation agencies, state funded programs; private community based agencies and volunteers her time with the Special Olympics, Miracle League, Sunshine League, coaching and working with adults and children with special needs. Garland has been a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist since 2013, but her years working in behavioral health has exceeded this. Garland has developed various programs including cooking, music, sensory integration, art, sports and photography sessions for individuals in her community. Garland takes pride in her profession and enjoys using her creativity to motivate and create a healing environment through fun and rewarding activities. Garland has obtained certifications in Water Safety Instruction, CPR/ First Aid Training, and is a certified Drums Alive© instructor. Garland keeps busy as a member of numerous non-profit organizations and continues to enhance her community.
Craig Stevens, CAC, CRSS

I have worked in the field of addiction for the past four years and my excitement and commitment still is at its optimum level.
I completed my associates in addiction studies and I am looking forward to continuing my studies in 2016 for my bachelors.I am also a ordained minister and assist clients with their spiritual needs.
At present my day to day duties consist of motivational interviewing and as a rapport is built with clients, then moving on to more substantial areas of behavioral treatment e.g.,diagnostic impressions and using techniques such as narrative behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and a host of other therapies integrated in order to reach the client.
I work closely with client's clinician, medical and leadership, reporting and addressing any behavior issues and taking directions in order to meet the specific needs of the client.
I also have experienced addiction and recovery. The devastation of my own addiction has become one of my greatest assets. I use my first hand knowledge to relate with the clients, combined with my clinical knowledge of addiction to enhance clients options for recovery.
Rachel Konnerth, LMHC
New Beginnings Therapist
Rachel is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida and has over 6 years of experience working in the addiction and mental health fields. She holds a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from NOVA Southeastern University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University. She has a diverse background of counseling experience and has worked with various populations including incarcerated males, people who struggle with chronic relapse, LGBTQ individuals, persons infected with HIV/AIDS, and individuals suffering from severe mental health issues. Rachel is a certified HIV/AIDS counselor and enjoys continuing to grow as a professional, pursuing various certifications in the field of counseling. She strongly believes in the power of group therapy and has 2 years of experience as a teacher’s assistant for a master’s level group therapy class at NOVA Southeastern University. She has counseling experience in many different settings including inpatient and outpatient treatment centers, detox facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and private practice. She takes an eclectic approach to treating her clients and believes that “one shoe does not fit all”. Rachel is committed to providing the highest level of care to her clients and strives to create a warm, safe atmosphere for clients to begin their journey to recovery.
Dr. Hilary Taylor has obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies from the University of Maryland at College Park and obtained a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Florida Professional School of Psychology. Dr. Taylor completed a pre-doctoral internship at a Veteran’s Administration Medical center in New York, and a Neuropsychology post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Taylor has a strong background in community mental health, has worked with the Serious and Persistently Mental Ill, and has extensive experience working as a therapist and group facilitator at a variety of drug and alcohol treatment centers. Dr. Taylor uses an integrative approach that encompasses theories and techniques ranging from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to Interpersonal Therapy and Family Systems Therapy. Dr. Taylor has experience in facilitating groups such as communication skills, anger/anxiety management, coping with grief and loss, establishing and maintaining healthy relationships and self-awareness. Dr. Taylor also provides psychoeducation to clients in an effort to better understand themselves, their addiction, and the world around them.
Twyla Pumroy, MSW
Ms. Twyla Pumroy has obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology as well as multiple Master’s degrees in Social Work, Exceptional Education, and Women’s studies. Currently Ms. Pumroy is a registered intern (ACSW) with experience in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Trauma informed therapy, specifically with childhood trauma/sexual abuse and addiction. Ms. Pumroy has a strong background in Residential Treatment Centers, Partial Hospitalization Programs, and Intensive Outpatient Programs in California as well as South Florida. Ms. Pumroy has studied methods to treat dually diagnosed PTSD and addictions and has a deep understanding of treating adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Ms. Pumroy’s focus is on holistic treatment including mindfulness, building happiness, natural stress and anxiety reducing practices, and meditation.
Marion comes to us with over 5 years’ experience in the addictions field and as a certified facilitator in several areas Including Certified Behavioral Health technician, WHAM and WRAP. She has worked with a diverse population that includes individuals suffering with severe addictions, mental health and legal problems. Having been in treatment herself her objective is to build clients on their strengths not their deficits. Marion has a passion for helping others find a new life in recovery.

John is living proof that hard work and determination pay off. John joined the Lakehaven Recovery Team in 2015. Throughout his career, John has worn many hats including; Residential Housing Supervisor, Clinician, Supervising Recovery Coach and Director of Alumni Services for one of the largest companies in the industry. In 2014 John was awarded Recovery Advocate of the year by Broward County Florida. Throughout his career, John has helped thousands of people overcome their struggles with addiction and mental health disorders and find a new life in recovery. John is tireless and his devotion to Lakehaven Recovery is a tremendous asset to the clients we treat. John brings a level of professionalism and motivation that is congruent with the vision of Lakehaven Recovery. At Lakehaven, John will be a leader for a number of new initiatives that will strengthen and grow our principled foundation.
Since his own early days in his recovery John has been known in recovery circles as “Relentless” – a nickname that has stuck! Often when clients want to leave treatment, they only need to get through one more day before they have a change of heart. Knowing how critical each day is, John goes to great lengths, to make sure clients don’t give up on themselves. John embodies the same principles that he tries to instill in his clients, namely humility, gratitude, motivation, sincerity and helpfulness. As he has grown, what drives John is his personal understanding of the disease of addiction and his deep concern for the clients we treat.

Director of Information Technology - Christopher brings over 14 years of experience working in the field of Information Technology. His prior roles consist of Sales, Management, Desktop Support, Helpdesk and Telecom Support Specialist. He has an Associate’s Degree in Computer Engineering Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Network Administration. He provides support for our Networks, Servers, PCs, Cell phones and Phone systems. He coordinates information technology efforts that benefit the entire company and its partners.
Rachel Dorfman joined the Lake Haven Recovery Center team in July 2015 as the Intake Specialist. She is currently working on completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology through Keiser University-Fort Lauderdale Florida and hopes to continue her education in the mental health and substance abuse field by obtaining her master’s degree. She was born in New York and raised in Miami and had opportunities in the past to evaluate individuals, which she really enjoyed and is what peaked her interest in working in the substance abuse field. After working as a recovery technician in the field of addiction for the past 6 years, she realized she really enjoyed sitting one-on- one with individuals and helping them determine goals for treatment.
